What I've Been Up To- Summer 2018

You guys,
I've been enjoying Summer so much this year.
I was unsure if I would enjoy it, seeing as I'm off work later this year than last.
I'm making the best of it.
To start off the Summer right I took an extra long weekend for Victoria Day (which I never do) and we went camping!
It made me want to do a lot more camping this year (which we haven't yet, but will) and I ended up investing in a double sleeping bag.
After that trip my love was gone for about a month, luckily our weather wasn't that great for the month of June so we weren't missing out.
Then July I had holidays and the weather was hot.
We took day trips here and there and did a big clean where we got rid of a lot of things we're not using.

It's fun exploring where you live.
I've lived in the same town for 30 years and had never been to Port Renfrew, so we finally went there.  Unfortunately the trip was cut short due to truck issues, but it was neat to see none the less.
Tonight I made shrimp cakes and they were freaking delicious! Both the boy and I decided it was a keeper recipe.
Since my last post we've lost three family friends, so that's been rough and one hit me harder than expected, but at least they're all no longer in pain and that's what I keep telling myself.

I have a few long weekends coming up and some holidays on September 1st.
I really want to start writing and blogging again, I've missed it more than I thought I would.

Anyone else scoping out Autumn decorations and candles?
Too early?

Anyways, I feel like I've been really trying to love life lately.
I'll have a post coming soon about the supplements I've been using and what's been saving me from my anxiety.

Face Mask Review (Part One)

I'm sure the beauty community has heard about Glow Recipe by now, I think I'm late to the game.  They're famous for their Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask (which I can not go without) and now their Watermelon Glow Pink Juice Moisturizer as well.

I place an order almost two months ago to try out a few sheet and rubber masks, also this life changing watermelon sleeping mask.

Well, I fell in love.
In the past, believing my skin to be oily, I've used mostly clay masks so this whole hydrating mask thing is new to me.

So this most recent purchase I bought one rubber mask, the watermelon mask and so many sheet masks.
I have yet to make it through all these masks but I figured I would do reviews along the way.  The best way for me to keep track of what they do is to write on the packaging as a reminder, so here we go!

I use this mask after I cleanse my face in the evening and before I put anything else on my face.
It can tend to settle a bit, so just give it a quick stir until it becomes a jelly again.  I use about a dime size amount for my entire face and I have been using this just about every night unless I use another treatment or face mask that evening.
The next morning my skin always looks more clear and glow-y.

(shown on the left in white packaging)
I really enjoyed this mask!  So at the bottom there is a little packet (mine is ripped off because I've used it) that contains Jeju Camellia oil and you apply that to your face first then part two the sheet mask.  I did find it pretty brightening, almost a whitening effect and the number on thing? I didn't break out.

I'm so frustrated about this mask because I do like it but my skin has some issues with it.
First off, it's a cream sheet mask, so it is quite thick which I really liked.  It felt so hydrating and when I took it off I could feel a slight firming effect.
The next morning I woke up with three new zits in different areas of my face, not happy.
I have a second one of these masks, so I will try it again and will let you know in my part two review if the same thing happened.

I've tried this mask before, and I've ordered it again which is why this one is unopened.  I've only tried a few things but I am so in love with this brand (try the micro tension cream!).
One of my favorite things about this mask is that it has ear loops to hold it on to your face and it just fits perfectly.  Plus this one really makes you look like a serial killer, I actually scared my boyfriend while wearing this one.
I could really feel the firming effects around my eyes and mouth after I removed this and maybe it's a placebo effect but it looks like my mouth wrinkle is less noticeable after this mask.

This mask was weird.
Did I like it? Yes
It's a gel like it states, but for some reason I was not expecting that, so you have to be quite careful applying it as I ended up tearing with my nails a few times.
The smell was okay, not the best though.
You're supposed to wear it for twenty minutes, but I found it so hard as it was sliding all over my face.  But I did find it very hydrating and my skin looked, clarified? I think that's the word I want.
Just a heads up that the packaging looks like it has changed from what I have pictured

Another mask from Polatam, so I was a bit nervous after breaking out from the firming one by them.
I love this mask
I had no breakouts, it was insanely moisturizing and I love the smell!!  I don't know what the smell actually is but it contains Oak tree sap so I imagine it's that but it reminds of my using my Mom's aloe plant when I was a kid.
I am so happy I purchased two of these.

This was so cool.
This is actually a cleanser, it comes with a sponge already soaked in solution containing Vitamin C and AHAs.
You squish it and out comes the cleanser all nice and bubbly.
I found it did a great job at cleansing and exfoliating, but I would definitely apply a moisturizer right after so you don't dry out your skin.
On the website it says you can use this up to three times per week, but I was unsure if it was the same sponge or if you'd have to buy a bunch of them.  They do make one for the body too which I really want to try!

I still have seven new masks to try out before I post another review and I'll also update you on any duplicates I have if there is a different reaction.

Have you tried anything from Glow Recipe?
Let me know in the comments!

[I ended up playing with the font after I published this and now it's super tiny. I am in the process of fixing it.]

Giving Up Alcohol (Week One)

I think I'm going to give up drinking.

I've said this before.

I've done it before.
From age nineteen to almost twenty two, I didn't drink.  It was my thing.

Lately whenever I drink I become the crying girl, the sloppy drunk girl. . .I get stupid.
Mostly it's due to anxiety (leads to drinking more) and social situations (I'm very anti-social).

I love my co-workers, but I feel like when they're a bunch of women, don't get belligerently drunk with them.
I used to work with a bunch of guys and we would always get drunk together, for some reason it was different.  I never felt like they would gossip about me behind my back, I felt safe.
I don't feel safe right now.
I confessed a lot of things to someone, who I trust completely, but it still has me on edge.

My heart is pounding, I'm cursing my drunk self, I couldn't sleep last night, my chest is unbelievably tight.

Who else did I talk to?  What did I say?  Did I speak too loudly?  How many embarrassing things did I do besides spill my drink?

I was a mess.
My friend told me I was drunk and she found me crying, which I knew, but she didn't say much else so I hope I wasn't too out of hand.

Therefore, no more drinking. . .for now.
I love my wine, but we'll exchange it for tea or sparkling water after a hard day.

I look forward to being more hydrated, more energetic, less depressed, less redness in my face, less breakouts, losing the extra weight from the empty calories, you know basically everything that comes with alcohol.

I'll keep you updated on my journey and we'll call Sunday April 15th the first day.
Here we go!

Update: April 21st
I was anxious every day this week except for Friday night/Saturday.  I had very poor, broken sleep every night.
But here we are one week with no alcohol.
Currently, my skin is breaking out a bit and I my energy level has been quite low after the work day (probably due to poor sleep), but I know the benefits will be much greater.
It's Saturday night and I wanted wine so badly, just because it's the weekend, but I made myself busy at home and later went out for coffee instead.
Onto week two!

My Current Skincare Routine 2018

I feel like I change my skincare routine every 6 months or so.  I'm not sure if it's a good thing, but this is what is working for me right now.  I feel like I say this every time I post a skincare routine, but I don't think my skin has ever looked so good as it does right now.  It probably helps that I had my first facial last weekend too.
I first start by wetting my face and using my Foreo Luna mini 2 with my Aveeno Positively Radiant face wash.  If it's the end of the day and I've been wearing makeup I use the Equate brand of eye makeup remover (same as the Neutrogena one) and then go in with Clinique's Take the Day Off cleansing balm.
The mask I've been using the most lately is the Aveeno 60 Second In Shower Facial, it makes my skin so smooth and I love the convenience of using it in the shower.  In the morning I like to use The Ordinary's hyaluronic acid as a base, but if I having a bad skin day I will use The Ordinary's Salicylic Acid 2% first and the the hyaluronic acid.  At night I like to use Niod's Multi-Molecular Hyaluronic Acid, for some more intense moisturizing.  Alternating nights I go for The Ordinary's Lactic Acid 10% ( I couldn't live without this!)
I've been really loving the Dr.Botanical's Moroccan Rose Superfood Facial Oil as a last step after moisturizer during the day.
Ever since I had a rash on my cheeks last year I've been scared to stray from my Eucerin Replenishing Face Cream, so it'll probably stay in my routine forever.
The two eye creams I'm using at the moment are my beloved Shiseido Benefiance Wrinkle Resist24 and the Olay Total Effects 7 in one which I've been using for about a month and liking so far.
Olay's Regenerist Luminous Facial Oil has been a staple, if I'm not applying the Dr.Botanicals oil I'm applying this one night and day.  I've just been loving using oils lately and I would suggest you try it out.
To finish off my face I spray some of Omorovicza's Queen of Hungary Mist.
I never ever thought I would rely on a facial mist but this has changed my mind.  When my skin is feeling really dehydrated I spray this about four different times through out my routine.
I honestly think this has changed my skin the most out of everything.
I have less breakouts, less redness, my skin feels so hydrated and smooth, it's just amazing.
Then I go in with the Hylamide HA Blur on my t-zone and a tiny bit under my eyes to help smooth things out, then I use ThisWorks InTransit Camera Close up all over for a perfect glow.  It's a mask, moisturizer and primer all in one.
I really enjoy using it as a primer and then I spritz a bit more of the mist and I'm done.
The result, for me, is super glow-y, radiant skin.

Celebrating My 30th Birthday at Oak Bay Beach Hotel

Last weekend my Mom and I took a trip down island for my birthday.
I think it hit her more than me that I'm thirty, hence the trip.
We stayed at the Oak Bay Beach hotel and had the most amazing time.
I wish we would've stopped to take pictures of the gorgeous seaside, but the roads were pretty busy.  Also the houses there are right up my alley, old Victorian beauties.
The hotel it's self is breath taking.
We, unfortunately, could only stay one night but I'm already planning my next trip back there.
When we stepped into our room we both instantly noticed the view (as seen above) and proceeded to take out our cameras and snap pictures of everything.
There was a card on the table along with two macarons.  The staff at this hotel really when above and beyond to make me feel special, and all it took was this card with a long handwritten note inside.

After stepping outside for some sea air, playing with the heated floors in the bathroom and discovering that the sliding doors to the bath tub and bedroom open and close so you can still see the view, we headed out for dinner.

We ate at our usual 'fancy' spot, Japanese Village, where they cook your food right in front of you.
We thought about trying somewhere new, but Japanese Village never disappoints.
By the time we were done it was almost eight o'clock and we headed back to the hotel to get into our robes and enjoy the Boathouse Spa and baths.
What's great about the baths is they're open until midnight and you can sit back and look up at the stars all while being warm in the nice cozy tub.

Monday morning we got up early and went for breakfast at Oak's Restaurant.  It is an older building, which I personally love, and it's right on the main road so you can do lots of people watching.
The breakfast was delicious and they supply you with ample amounts of coffee.

Eleven o'clock my Mom and I both had spa appointments.  She booked us each in for an hour massage and a thirty minute facial.
I have never had a massage before, so I was incredibly nervous.
When we went into the change room we quietly discussed what we were supposed to do, until we gave up being unsure and asked another girl that was in there with us.
She was so sweet and didn't act like we were weird and told us that we can go fully nude or keep on what ever we felt comfortable with.
Once we had a plan we went and sat in the lounge awaiting our appointments.

The girl who I had for my massage/facial was awesome.
I had a great experience for my first massage and already want another one.
They use the brand B.Kamins for their facials, I had never heard of it before but my skin definitely liked it.
After our pampered afternoon we wandered around the malls, but came out empty handed, before heading back home.
Ten out of ten would go back, but will be booking more than just one night.
